Matthew joined Thesigers as a Director in 2017 after serving as a senior consultant for several years. He advises clients on technology, innovation and defence issues. A Senior Lecturer at the University of Sussex, he is a scholar-practitioner with experience on both sides of the public/commercial divide, including previous roles as a management consultant with IBM/PWC and as a strategic analyst with the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. His most recent publications are Weapon of Choice: Small Arms and the Culture of Military Innovation (Hurst & Co. Publishers, 2017), and (as co-author) a preliminary study on innovation in defence medical services, published in RUSI Journal. He holds a BA (Hons) in Philosophy, University of Reading, and MA and PhD degrees in War Studies from King's College, London.
